NOTES FROM THE ELDERS

Two Services on June 13
8:15 and 11:00

Beginning this Sunday, June 13, Faith Lutheran will return to two worship services on Sunday morning.  These services will begin at 8:15 and 11:00 a.m., with both services being mask optional

The wings of the Sanctuary will be reserved for those wishing to wear a mask, with the middle sections open to masked and unmasked worshipers.  Due to new guidance from the CDC, alternating rows will no longer be required and all rows will be available for seating.

Communion services will continue in the same manner as we have been practicing during the past several months and offering will continue to be collected as you enter the Sanctuary.

Bible Studies and Sunday School Classes Begin June 13

Also returning this Sunday is our weekly in-person Adult Bible Studies and Sunday School Classes at 9:45 a.m.  Three adult classes will be offered along with two services for youth.  These classes will also be mask optional.  (See below for the classes being offered.)

Bring Your Own Coffee

During the Council budget planning session in October 2020, the Board of Fellowship budget was slashed due to no fellowship activities occurring and the uncertainty of when such events would be allowed to return.  These decisions were made surrounding the uncertainty of the Covid pandemic and the impacts the pandemic would have on the ability to hold Church activities and the availability of funds.  Therefore no money was included in the budget for coffee to be supplied by the Church during Sunday School and as such coffee will not be available.  You are welcome to bring your own coffee in a sealed mug to enjoy during Sunday School.  Please refrain from consuming coffee in the Sanctuary during worship service as has been our custom in the past.

The Board of Elders look forward to welcoming
everyone back to our normal Sunday service schedule!
Blessings from Dennis Hill, Board of Elders

Are you curious about the actual tenets of Lutheran Christianity?
Are you wanting to become a member of Faith Lutheran Church?
Then this class is for you!
Non-members welcome!    Members…great refresher course!

 2

A Survey of the Old Testament

taught by Dr. Ron Swanson  (Activity Center)

Whether you have been reading the Bible for years or are barely familiar with its contents, this overview will help you see the development of God’s story of salvation.  It will help knit together the two testaments and demonstrate that the Bible is a single book with a single theme.  Many Christians shy away from a close reading of the Old Testament and think it is too complicated and too difficult to understand.  This course will provide a structure on which to build your knowledge and understanding of the Old Testament.  It will focus on selected central characters, themes and events that will make your reading of the entire Bible come alive.

Parenting Class – Nurturing our Children’s Faith

taught by Dedie Wright  (B-116)

As parents, we take care of our children’s basic physical needs, such as food, shelter, clothing, medical care, etc.

As parents, we take care of our children’s basic emotional needs, such as giving them love, attention, understanding, acceptance, time, and support.

And as Christian parents we are called to take care of our children’s basic spiritual needs. This class will help equip parents to better:

  • Build a solid foundation of faith with the instructive writings found in Luther’s Small Catechism
  • Communicate the important teachings of the Christian faith, from a Lutheran perspective
  • Share their faith in Jesus, and love for Him, in ways that children can understand and apply to their lives.

The class is not only instructional, but interactive, fun, and engaging! JOIN US!!

“Tell Me Not”

by Tess Todd

June reminds me of Father’s Day and of Frank and my dad. I’ve told you many stories about Frank and what a good and faithful husband and father he was. But this is about my dad.

Who knows why our first thoughts on waking are what they are? A few days ago, I woke up thinking, ‘Tell me not in mournful numbers…’  Longfellow’s “A Psalm of Life” ran through my mind all day. I should have it committed to memory. It was Daddy’s favorite… that, and the 8th chapter of Romans. I read them to him over and over in his final years.
