BAGS TO MATS UPDATE

The Bags to Mats Ministry took it pretty easy over the summer, just meeting once per month. The members, however, continued to work on the various different steps in producing a sleeping mat as almost everything can be done from home.

We will resume meeting on the 1st and 3rd Fridays on September 17th at 10:00 in Rm 116.

We welcome anyone who is called to help the homeless and wants to help us recycle with a purpose.

We donated 13 mats to LINC Austin in June and hope to do so again in November.

If you, or anyone you know, from Faith or not, is interested in helping with this ministry, here are the steps in making a mat:

  • Collecting bags – Although we requested a slow down on the congregation donations over the summer, we again welcome all the bags you can donate
  • Folding bags – simply smooth bag into original shape before using and fold into thirds
  • Cutting bags – please cut the bags into pieces at least 2.5-3 inches wide, to provide more cushioning to the mat and make crocheting easier
  • Looping cut pieces into plarn
    • please be sure the two sides of the piece are equal before tightening the knot
    • please make the knots as small as possible to ease crocheting over them

These details are so important to the crocheters who have to correct these issues as they crochet.

Thanks so much to those who donate their valuable time to Bags to Mats and hope to see you at the next meeting on September 17th.

THANK YOU!

Pastor Pohland,
I want to thank you and your congregation for the prayer quilt.  I can’t tell you how much the prayers mean.  This past year and a half has been a difficult time for healthcare workers, and prayer and remembering that God is in control is what has sustained me over this time.  Again, thank you for the quilt and prayers.

PARA CORDERS – SEPTEMBER 28

FAITH’S BRAILLE TEAM  –  SEPTEMBER 13

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
: Faith’s Braille Team is in need of volunteers. Our team prints 20 copies of I and II Corinthians in Swahili to send to East Africa Countries. Contact Paul or Lois Howe to join the Missionary Outreach.

NOTE NEW TIME:  The team meets the 2nd Monday of each month at Zion Lutheran Church.  Our meeting time has changed.  We now start at 12:00 and end at 2:00.  We were asked to meet earlier so we do not leave the same time as parents are arriving to pick up children from the school.

LIFE THOUGHTS from Lutherans for Life

September 12 – Pentecost XVI (Proper 19B) –
Even Christian lips can dishonor God and endanger neighbors (James 3:9). When we permit assisted suicide or promote abortion, we cause more destruction than forest fires (James 3:5). But words also serve the Lord’s gracious purposes. Gospel promises have delivered us. Even our sinful tongues can become instruments of His miracles. When we proclaim how God treasures every human life, He changes hearts and saves lives more than any laws or elections.
