Know Christ!  Live Christ!  Make Christ Known!

CHRISMON FUNDRAISER – October 24

for 20 NURSING HOME RESIDENTS

This Christmas season, the Chrismon Committee needs your help spreading Christmas cheer to residents at local nursing homes. The committee is planning on giving out wreaths to 20 residents who have family far away or who do not have any family. We need your help to raise funds for this mission project. Each wreath costs approximately $20 to make, and we will be taking donations before and after church services October 24 . The goal is to raise at least $400 for this project as well as take any additional money collected to make more ornaments for the sanctuary.

The committee will have 20 angel pins for purchase for $10 each. Any amount donated will be greatly appreciated for our mission project as well as providing more Chrismons for the sanctuary. If you write a check, please add “Chrismons” in the memo line of your check. If you have any questions, please feel free to email Kim Herndon or the church office.

Chrismons are Christmas tree ornaments that use Christian symbols. The word, Chrismon, is a combination of Christ and monogram (meaning symbol). These symbols of Christ on a Christmas tree help Christians to remember that Christmas is the celebration of Jesus’s birth and a look into His life, and the ultimate gift – His death and resurrection. The story of Jesus is explained through the ornaments in traditional colors of white and gold. White is the liturgical (or Church) color for Christmas and symbolizes that Jesus was pure and perfect. Gold symbolizes His Majesty and Glory.

SPECIAL GUEST THIS SUNDAY:

DR. BARB GEISTFELD

LUTHERANS FOR LIFE

We will be blessed to have Dr. Barb Geistfeld, Lutherans for Life (LFL) Regional Director of Texas, visiting us this Sunday, October 24th.  She is retired from owning a small-animal veterinary hospital.  She has taught teen and adult Bible studies for many years and has given LFL presentations to Lutheran churches, schools and conferences all over Texas.  She will have a table with Lutherans for Life publications in the church narthex and will be available to answer questions after both services.

She will also be speaking to Pastor Crowe’s Parenting Class on life issues facing young people today.  Anyone is welcome to attend the class at 9:45 in Room B.-116

TRUNKS of TREATS

What a treat to meet people from the community!

LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF (LWR)

QUILT & HEALTH KIT “BLESSING”

The LWR Quilts and Kits Blessing
will be on October 31st.

Come see all the beautiful quilts
on display in the sanctuary

Quilters & Helping Hands Members wish to thank the Congregation for their support.

The Lutheran World Relief quilt is special!  It brings warmth on a cold night, shelter from the sun on a hot day. It becomes a bed, a room divider, a backpack to carry belongs, and sometimes even a home. The quilts are distributed by Lutheran World Relief to Refugees and other people around the world, including the US.  Each quilt is one of a kind with a beauty all its own, made as a gift of hope by caring women.  We know that some of our quilts have gone to Georgia (Russia), Honduras, Guatemala, Serbia, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Iraq, Jordan, and Angola, among others.

LAY READERS NEEDED FOR 2022

What Is A Lay Reader?  A lay reader is a person who reads the scripture lessons during our worship services.  Public scripture reading is an important ministry as the reader becomes a vehicle for sharing God’s word with the congregation.

Who Can Be A Lay Reader?  Members of Faith who have the gift and commitment to read.  This is a very practical way to invite people to become more involved with our church.

A schedule for the 2022 lay readers will be published before the end of this year.  You will receive a copy of the worship guide from the church office a few days before your scheduled date, so you can prepare and review the scripture reading.

Yes, I want to sign up to be a lay reader!

Deadline to get your information back to us is SUNDAY, OCTOBER 24.

If you have questions, please contact Janine A or call the church office, 512-863-7332.

GREETERS for 2022

Sharing God’s Love – One SMILE at a time!

Do you like to SMILE?  Meet new people?

Would you like to be on a Greeter team at our church?

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP TO BE A GREETER

(Deadline to sign up is Nov 8th.)

The Holy Spirit has led ALL that come through our doors. It’s our responsibility for ALL to feel God’s love and show our eagerness for ALL to hear the good news of HIS sacrifice for ALL. Our Greeters are like a lens on a camera that brings into focus the true picture of our church and God’s love for ALL.   Be that reason someone feels His love and wants to return again and again! Greeters are assigned to greet once every 6-7 weeks.  You would be given a schedule before the end of the year. There are always options to trade dates with other greeters when you will be out of town.

We encourage ALL members (including children) to consider greeting!

“Welcome him in the Lord with great joy!”  -Philippians 2:29.

Any questions, please text or call me.

GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP

A Grief Support Group will be offered on Sundays from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m., beginning on October 31, 2021.

This will be an open group.  You can start any week, attend as frequently as you want and discontinue when you want.  This will be a safe place to share the story of your loved one and how their loss has impacted your life.   We will practice confidentiality.

We will gain strength as we share our experiences, consider Scripture and pray.  We will gain hope as we know that God is close to the brokenhearted.  You are invited to attend whether your grief is fresh, or if your longer-term grief still needs additional processing.

Contact the church office if you would like more information or would like to talk with the Facilitator, Dolores K.  For planning purposes, it will be helpful if you can let her know that you plan to attend.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

What if you started your Operation Christmas Child shoe box by writing a note to the person who will receive it?  The Love of God is a great place to start…then you will know what to put in the box for the person you love.  CLICK HERE to hear the testimony of Yuri (pictured left) who lived in 14 different orphanages and how the note from another little girl changed her life.

To build your own, amazing shoe box for a child in need,  CLICK HERE FOR A LIST OF ITEMS RECOMMENDED FOR EACH AGE GROUP. If you don’t have a shoe box, put everything in a plastic bag, and we will provide boxes. All filled shoeboxes need to be turned in by Nov. 14.  We are also collecting empty shoe boxes in the Narthex. The lid has to be detachable.  Let us know if you need a shoe box.

No time to make a shoe box?   Money to ship each shoe box is needed.  It takes $9 to process and ship each shoe box.  You can drop some cash in the Sunday School Mission offering basket or write a check to Faith with “Operation Christmas Child” in the memo.

The Sunday School Mission of the Month is Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international relief organization.  Their mission is to provide local partners around the world with shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies, as a means of reaching out to children with the Good News of Jesus Christ.  We ship these gifts outside the US to children affected by war, poverty, natural disasters, etc, and to children living on Native American reservations in the US.  The SS Mission Offering will help pay for shipping of the boxes.

LIFE THOUGHTS FOR LUTHERANS

October 24 – Pentecost XXII (Proper 25B)
– Disabilities do not deserve death, either at life’s beginning or near its end. The Lord our God loves to save us in all our brokennesses (Jeremiah 31:8-9). May we learn something even greater than comfort from our limitations—may we learn in our disabilities to cry out to Jesus and follow Him (Mark 10:48, 52), through affliction to life everlasting.
